Dutch destroyer Hr.Ms. Bulhond 1910-1929



Ordered to be built at the shipyard Kon.Mij. De Schelde at Vlissingen, Netherlands on 1 August 1910 laid down between the submarine storehouses on the North bank on 16 March 1911 with yard number 140, in the thrushes on 9 June, plating fitted on 3 August, boilers placed on 2 October and launched on Wednesday 20 December. Trials while berthed on 29 March 1913, official trial on 6 June and delivered on 5 August and 3 days later departed towards Den Helder, Netherlands. On 29 August she left for the Dutch East Indies. Stricken in 1929. Building costs completely fitted out when for the first time commissioned ƒ 872.950,00.

Dimensions 70,10 (between perpendiculars)-70,40 (over all) x 6,553 x 2,04-2,82 x 3,962 (hold) or 230’0”-230’11¾”x 21’6” x – x 13’0”. Displacement 483 (standard)-510 tons.
Her crew numbered 84 men. The armament consisted of 4-7,5cm semi automatic guns no. 2, 4 machineguns, 2-45cm torpedo guns.

Fitted out with triple compound engines nrs. 279-280 manufactured at the shipyard delivering 8.550 hp during the trial achieving a speed of 30,3 knots. Four Yarrow water tube boilers nrs. 114-117. Two masts. Four funnels. Range 2.360 nautical miles with a speed of 8,8 knots and 670 nautical miles with a speed of 20 knots.



The Dutch newspaper Vlissingse Courant dated 21 December 1911 reported that her launching the afternoon of the 20th was successful. She was similar to the Wolf and Fret earlier built at the same yard. The De Zeeuw dated Saturday 30 March 1912 reported that her berthed was performed the Friday before and that on short notice the coal- and speed trials were to be executed. The Middelburgsche Courant dated 16 April reported that the next morning the yard trials of the Bulhond and her sister ship Jahals would start. The official trials in the presence of a navy commission were a week later planned. The Vlissingse Courant dated 14 May reported the arrival of the torpedoboat Foka coming from Den Helder. On board were rear admiral G.P. van Hecking Colenbrander and lieutenant 1st class to attend the trial her official trial. The edition dated 7 June reported that during the official a day earlier she a medium speed of 30,3 knots achieved.
